Updates to COVID-19, Flu and Other Respiratory Virus Protocol
Do not go to class or socialize if you are feeling sick
or have a fever.
WHAT DO I DO IF I TEST POSITIVE FOR A RESPIRATORY VIRUS (influenza, COVID-19) OR HAVE A FEVER GREATER THAN 100ºF (37.8ºC)?
Step 1.
Stay home from class or activities if you have a fever (>100ºF or 37.8ºC) or test positive for a respiratory virus.
- Monitor your symptoms. If you develop moderate or severe symptoms, schedule an appointment via the Student Patient Portal for a Same Day or Primary Care appointment. After hours or weekends, please access care at a local urgent care facility or via TimelyCare. Call 911 if you are experiencing a medical emergency.
- Contact your school to manage your absence due to isolation:
- Undergraduate College students can complete a Student Self-Service Absence Form to notify professors of your absence.
- All other students (graduate, professional, non-College undergraduates) may fill out a Student of Concern Form to notify your program of your absence.
Step 2.
You can return to classes or activities when the following 2 criteria are BOTH met in order to significantly decrease transmission to others.
- You have not had a fever for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, AND
- You have significantly improving symptoms for at least 24 hours.
Step 3.
When returning to class and activities, follow these precautions.
- Handwashing and covering coughs limit the spread of germs.
- Wear a high-quality mask around others at home and in public for the next five (5) days.
- Keep your distance from people who have weakened immune systems or are more likely to get very sick from respiratory viruses.
- Take steps for cleaner air or gather outside, whenever possible.
