Waiver Process

In 2018, Emory University successfully become a self-insured (self-funded) student health insurance plan. As a self-insured plan, Emory operates its own student health insurance plan with Aetna Student Health as the plan administrator. There are significant benefits to being a self-insured plan, one of which is being able to stabilize the plan’s benefits and maintain premium costs as will be the case with no plan changes or annual rate increase next year. And with the uncertainty of available healthcare options, this is the perfect time to consider the Emory University Student Health Insurance Plan (EUSHIP). If you have comparable health insurance and wish to opt out of the EUSHIP for 2019-20, the Fall waiver site will be available by the early part of June, if not sooner once the EUSHIP is completely finalized. Please keep an eye on all Emory email communications. You will be notified by email once the waiver site opens, at which time, it will remain open until the first day of College classes in late August. To complete the 2019-20 waiver, follow the steps below:

  1. Login at with Emory Network ID and Password
  2. Complete required Emergency Verification information if requested
  3. Select “Health” tile on the Applicant Homepage or Student Homepage
  4. Select “Submit Health Insurance Waiver” and follow the four steps to complete the process
