Health Promotion Resources for Residence Life Staff
Residence life staff members are some of our closest allies in creating a culture of wellness on campus. We look forward to working with you throughout your career at Emory.
Please keep our programs, inservices, trainings and clinical services in mind as you plan events for your residents and as you consider how best to take care of yourself in your demanding position as an RA, SA, or RHD.

Mini-courses
We are pleased to offer several new mini-courses. These learning opportunities were designed specifically to help build community on the hall while providing students a chance to learn and practice health-enhancing skills for academic and social success!
Detailed descriptions can be viewed by clicking on the mini-course titles below:
SleepWell
Eat Well, Think Well
Healthy Relationships
I Heart My Vagina
Stress Reduction for the Busy Student
Your Model, Our Programs Following are some examples of ways you can collaborate with us to satisfy your Core program requirements.
Emory Learns
- Sponsor a mini-course with Learning Services and Carol Kelly, RD, LD called Eat Well, Think Well: proper fueling while studying; snacks to have during the MCAT; study snacks for midterms and exam time, etc.
- Sustainability programs - show our 4 minute DVD as a way of highlighting that it is important to sustain one's mental, physical and spiritual health; collaborate with us on a "what sustains us" photo exhibit; invite us to do a program on the top 10 health concerns as impediments to academic performance and ways to avoid those pitfalls for yourself; SleepWell mini-course (better sleep, better grades); in fact, any of our mini-courses would satisfy this area; and our bulletin boards, with an evaluation component, might also satisfy this area
Hands-on Emory
- Meditation - contact Shirley Banks for more info
- Tour of Lulwater - any one of us in Health Promotion would be happy to partner other campus contacts to co-facilitate a tour with a stress relief as well as an ecological emphasis
- Massage - partner with us to bring our StressBusters program along as part of it
- Wrapping with Carol - making healthy meals on the hall
Emory Connections
- Friday night floor dinners - invite one of us to co-host or collaborate
- Screen on the Green - we can help with film discussions afterwards if the movie content touches on relationships, stress, violence, alcohol, drugs, food, etc. The tone could be celebratory and fun and we could use the opportunity to highlight all the good things that residents are doing to take care of each other and themselves (we can provide title suggestions if that would help and we're increasing our own DVD library).
- Pre- and Post-Freshmen Semi Programs - we'd love to help!
Emory Gives
We can help facilitate debriefing and reflection after service trips involving health, mental health, sexual assault prevention, substance abuse, etc.
