Rules and policies

Emory University is committed to the health and well-being of its faculty, staff, and student body. Alcohol and drug misuse and abuse can be detrimental to one’s overall physical and emotional health; academic and/or professional performance; and adversely impact family, friends and co-workers. Emory University expects all of its faculty, staff and students to comply with any applicable federal, state or local laws pertaining to the use, possession, manufacture, dispensation or distribution of alcohol, controlled substances, or illegal drugs.

Under Georgia state law, possession of alcoholic beverages by persons under 21 years of age is prohibited. Furnishing alcoholic beverages to persons who are underage or intoxicated is also prohibited. For more information about Georgia state laws pertaining to alcohol, visit this summary from the Alcohol Policy Information System, which is a project of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

University policies regarding alcohol can be found in Emory’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Policy 8.8; this policy includes requirements for on-campus events with alcohol.
